AMG 812BAMG 812B JAMG 812B JA

AMG 814

A. Pioneers – Long Shot

AMG 814AAMG 814A JAAMG 814A JB

Thanks to 45cat and Reggae Collector for label scans.

AMG%20814A.mp3

The predecessor of ‘Longshot Kick De Bucket’ but a much better track. It didn’t have the commercial success of the followup but it was still a big record and the rhythm track was re-used for ‘Jackpot’. ‘Long Shot’ is available on VP Records Joe Gibbs Scorchers From The Early Years (1967-73).

B. Pioneers – Dip And Fall Back

AMG 814BAMG 814B JA

Thanks to 45cat for label scan.

AMG%20814B.mp3

A rocksteady number featuring some nice steel band business. ‘Dip And Fall Back’ is available on The Pioneers – Let Your Yeah Be Yeah – Anthology 1966-86.

AMG 815

A. Roy Shirley – The World Needs Love

AMG 815AAMG 815A JJAMG 815A JA

AMG 815BAMG 815B JJAMG 815B JA

Thanks to Johnny Spencer for label scan.

AMG%20815B.mp3

On the same rythym as The Grovers – Day By Day. Released in Jamaica on Joe Gibbs’ new imprint Jogib. ‘Dance The Auna’ is or was available on Joe Gibbs Rock Steady Early Years Vol. 2 on the Rocy One label.

AMG 816

A. Dennis Walks – Having A Party

AMG 816AAMG 816A JA

AMG%20816A.mp3

Not my favourite Amalgamated release but not a bad record. It was released as the flip to ‘Jackpot’ on the Jamaican Amalgamated release. Having A Party’ was available on the now deleted Trojan CD Get On Up! – Joe Gibbs Rocksteady [1967-68]

B. The Groovers – Day By Day

AMG 816B

AMG%20816B.mp3

A great piece of rocksteady. ‘Day By Day’ was released as the flip to Eric Monty Morris’ ‘Cinderella’ on it’s Jamaican release. ‘Day By Day’ was available on Trojan CD Get On Up! – Joe Gibbs Rocksteady [1967-68].

AMG 817

A. The Mellotones – Feel Good

AMG 817AAMG 817A J

Thanks to 45cat for label scan.

AMG%20817A.mp3

The second Mellotones release on the UK Amalgamated label ‘Feel Good’ was available on the Trojan CD Jackpot Of Hits & Explosive Rocksteady which put two Amalgamated lps on one CD, unfortunately it has been deleted.

B. Tommy McCook & The Supersonics – Soulful Mood

AMG 817BAMG 817B J

Thanks to 45cat for label scan.

AMG%20817B.mp3

I have only heard this tune from the Joe Gibbs And Freinds – The Reggae Train Lp, not from the orginal 7″ but if it is correctly labled on the Lp this is the same  track as AMG 830 B side Caterpillar Rock. It is not available on CD.

AMG 818

A. The Creations – Holding Out

AMG 818A

Thanks to 45cat for label scan.

AMG%20818A.mp3

A cover of Robert Parker’s ‘Holdin’ Out’ it the first release for The Creations on Amalgamated, but they had already recorded a single for Joe Gibbs that came out on Unity in Jamaica and on Rio in the UK. ‘Holding Out’ is another track that was available on the Trojan CD Jackpot Of Hits & Explosive Rocksteady.

B. The Creations – Get On Up

AMG 818BAMG 818B J

Thanks to 45cat and Thore for label scans.

AMG%20818B.mp3

Has a similar intro as Lynn Tait & The Jets – This Is Soul. For me it has an almost Afrofunk kind of flavour. Again it was available on the Trojan album of the same name Get On Up! – Joe Gibbs Rocksteady [1967-68].

AMG 819

A. Jackie Robinson – Over And Over

AMG 819A

Thanks to 45cat for label scan.

AMG 819BAMG 819B J

Thanks to 45cat and SKA BOO-DA-BA for label scans.

AMG%20819B.mp3

Miscredited to Jackie Robinson on the UK pressng, It is actually The Spanishites, who I know nothing about. It was  the flip to The Vestatiles – ‘Push It In’ on it’s Jamaican release. As far as I know it has never been issued on CD.

AMG 820

A. Errol Dunkley – Love Brother

AMG 820AAMG 820AAMG 820A

Thanks to Rasadam for label scan.

AMG%20820A.mp3

The last track of Errol Dunkley’s to be released on Amalgamated before he split from Joe Gibbs and went to work with Coxsone Dodd. An Instrumental version was done by Lyn Taitt and the Jets called ‘Sleepy Ludy’. ‘Love Brother’ is available on the Heartbeat CD Explosive Rocksteady.

B. Lyn Taitt & The Jets – I Spy

AMG 820BAMG 820B J

Thanks to Dancecrasher for label scan.

AMG%20820B.mp3

Another great instrumental and once again it was available on the Trojan compilation Get On Up! – Joe Gibbs Rocksteady [1967-68].

  1. The album ‘Reggae Train’ was also issued as a CD (CDTRL 261) and has ‘Soulful Mood’, although I am sure it is long deleted.
